Cellular polycarbonate has a thickness of 3 to 50 mm. Polycarbonate with a thickness of 4-6 mm is used to cover greenhouses. At the same time, polycarbonate has several advantages against other covering materials.
Main advantages of polycarbonate
- Ultra high impact strength. With low weight, cellular polycarbonate is 200 times stronger than glass and 8 times stronger than acrylic plastics.
- High temperature resistance. The material becomes brittle at extreme operating temperatures.
- High fire resistance. Polycarbonate is flame-retardant and self-extinguishing, at very high temperatures the material melts, but does not allow the spread of flame. Polycarbonate burning is not accompanied by the release of toxic substances, unlike other plastics.
- Low specific gravity. Cellular polycarbonate weighs 16 times less than glass and 3 times less than acrylic of similar thickness.
- High thermal insulation properties, low thermal conductivity. The resistance to heat transmission is higher than that of ordinary single-layer glass, which reduces energy costs for heating and cooling by about 30-50%.
- High light transmission. Transparency – up to 86%, the material is ideal for cases wich require maximum light transmission. The light scatter good inside the double panel. There is no shade and gain due to reflection on the partitions.
- Good soundproofing.
- High chemical resistance. The material can be used even in aggressive environments without changing the chemical composition and properties.
- Flexural and tensile strength.
- Excellent weather resistance. Cellular polycarbonate is suitable for use in the temperature range from -40C to +120 ° C, a special outer layer protects the sheets from yellowing and surface wear.
- Durability, immutability of properties. The mechanical, optical and thermal properties of cellular polycarbonate sheets remain unchanged throughout the warranty period and even longer, the warranty period is 10-12 years.
- Safety glazing. Polycarbonate is a viscous polymer, so the sheets made from it do not break, do not give cracks, and, consequently, sharp fragments upon impact.
- UV protection. A special protective layer deposited on the outer surface of the sheets prevents the penetration of the most harmful UV radiation for the interior.
